The Southern Spirit is a seasonal touring train operating from November 2011 to February 2012, between Brisbane and Adelaide via Melbourne and vice versa.

Gold Service

Gold Service is ideal for guests seeking a great train adventure with style and comfort. Guests can enjoy classic twin sleeper cabins with private compact en-suite facilities, complimentary toiletries and towels provided. The Outback Explorer Lounge offers an excellent place to socialise and meet fellow travellers from all corners of the world or sit back and enjoy the passing parade of Australian landscapes. Day 1: Saturday

Brisbane and Byron Bay Board The Southern Spirit in Brisbane and begin your journey southward. Experience a Whistle Stop Tour of small coastal village Byron Bay, the most easterly point of the Australian mainland. See the laid back atmosphere, pristine beaches and take your time to enjoy the Main Street on your own. Rejoin The Southern Spirit in Casino.

Day 2: Sunday - Port Macquarie

Today, enjoy a Whistle Stop Tour in the historic town of Port Macquarie. Take the opportunity to explore this peaceful town surrounded by green fields and grazing cattle. Experience New South Wales’ mid north coast on your way south while enjoying a delicious three course meal in the Queen Adelaide Restaurant with new found friends.

Day 3: Monday - Hunter Valley

Start the day with breakfast on board as you travel to the scenic Hunter Valley, one of Australia’s premier wine areas. Join your Whistle Stop Tour and experience the tastes of the region as you explore the many highlights. After the delights of the Hunter Valley, rejoin The Southern Spirit and share your stories with your fellow travellers.

Day 4: Tuesday - Dubbo

Contemplate the changing landscapes passing by on the path less travelled as you continue towards Dubbo, nestled in the heart of New South Wales. Here, enjoy a Whistle Stop Tour to Taronga Western Plains Zoo, one of the world’s finest open range sanctuaries and a vital link in national and international programs for rare and endangered species.

Day 5: Wednesday - Albury-Wodonga and Melbourne

Continuing southward along The Great Dividing Range, the day’s first stop is the twin cities of Albury-Wodonga on the Murray River. Enjoy a Whistle Stop Tour before proceeding on to Melbourne. Take the opportunity to leave the train and take in the delights of Southbank or Melbourne City. Reboard The Southern Spirit and head west towards Stawell.

Day 6: Thursday - The Grampians and Adelaide

Your final day on board The Southern Spirit begins with a Whistle Stop Tour in the picturesque Grampians. Reboard the train as it winds across the plain, bidding farewell to your fellow travelling companions over lunch as The Southern Spirit reaches its final destination, Australia’s wine capital Adelaide.
